The first project of the plan LIFE Lugo + Biodinámico, a plantation of chestnuts, has been approved.
The local government board approved yesterday the planting of chestnut trees in a municipal 3.6 hectare plot located in the As Gándaras industrial park. This is the first project of the Lugo + Biodynamic plan, which has fundings from the Life program of the European Union.
Local government spokesman Miguel Fernández explained that this plantation has a budget of 28,800 euros and a project time-frame of six months. The plantation includes Galician chestnut varieties recommended for this region, according to the indications of USC personnel involved in the project. A perimeter fence with wooden doors to allow easy access will also be installed. The plot will be identified thanks to two descriptive panels and provided with litter bins and wooden benches.
