The meeting “Building Sustainable Cities” includes the final analysis of LIFE Lugo + Biodinámico
The meeting “Building Sustainable Cities” organized by LIFE Lugo + Biodinámico on December 19 and 20 ended with a great success of reception by the public and assistant professionals. Through four thematic sessions and two guided tours, the meeting of cities and climate action projects in urban environments made an in-depth review of all the actions that are being being carried out at LIFE Lugo + Biodinámico, in addition to sharing experiences and sharing progress with other similar European projects.
The first day, which was held in O Vello Cárcere, was attended by the mayor of Lugo, Lara Méndez, who introduced the event and welcomed all the people who face-to-face or telematics have followed the event. In her speech, she highlighted the benefits that LIFE Lugo + Biodinámico is bringing to the city of Lugo. After her intervention, members of the different partner entities of the project also participated, such as Elvira López from the USC, Luis Ruiz from the UPM and Pablo Rivera from the Lugo Provincial Council. The morning continued with a presentation on the Covenant of Mayors by Meline González and continued with the interventions of Jose Alonso presenting the Biodynamic Strategic Plan and with the Planning of residential climate comfort zones by Rubén Nieto Seijas and Roberto Pardo Barro. The morning session was closed by Susana Penedo highlighting the work of the project, Jesús Ángel Martínez and Jorge Gómez with the presentation of the Catalogue of Sustainable Urban Design Solutions of the LIFE Lugo + Biodinámico, Javier Mira highlighting the synergy established with LIFE CerSuds for the filtering paving and María Tortosa highlighting the benefits of HOOP project for the revaluation and management of sustainable cities.
The day continued in the afternoon with interventions by Boris Hinojo, manager of the LIFE Lugo + Biodinámico project, and Lucas Perea speaking about the shared learning with the LIFE Watercool project, Inês Freire highlighting the benefits of the LIFE Lungs of Lisbon and Antonio Rigueiro and again Luis Ruiz highlighting the work carried out in the As Gándaras Urban Forest. The face-to-face training day ended presenting the Impulso Verde building, led by Belén Feijóo, architect and member from PEMADE, followed by Manuel Guaita presenting LIFE Wood for Future as a continuation of the LIFE project and Gonzalo Anguita, executive director of FSC, talking about the work related to certifications for sustainable wood construction.

Tuesday’s appointment consisted of a guided tour of the As Gándaras Urban Forest and the Impulso Verde building. During the walk through the Urban Forest, the work carried out in the different demonstration actions was highlighted: the planting of energy crops, the work for the establishment of a soto, the area of native hardwoods, the arboretum and a walk around the wetland, already recovered. The guided tour of the Impulso Verde building was led by Belén Feijóo and Boris Hinojo, which valued the work carried out in the building and its surroundings, which makes it a model to follow for sustainable wood construction. The visit has aroused a lot of curiosity and interest among the participating people, closing these two educational and demonstrative days with great success.
