LIFE Lugo + Biodinámico at the World Congress of Wood Engineering (Seoul, Republic of Korea)
During the days 20 to 23 of August it is presented, in the World Congress of Wood Engineering, the work on the gridshell prototype developed within the framework of the project LIFE Lugo + Biodinámico.
The World Congress of Wood Engineering (WCTE 2018. Seoul, Republic of Korea) is the world’s most important forum to present and discuss the latest developments and innovations in wood construction and engineering. It is the most prestigious event in this field, of biannual celebration, which brings together engineers, architects and researchers from all continents.
The work selected for the WCTE describes the development of the first prototype of gridshell, a structural roof system made in Eucalyptus globulus, built at Plataforma de Enxeñaría de Madeira Estrutural do Campus Terra from the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, with engineers from this university and the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. This is the first gridshell built in Spain and the first in the world developed with this arboreal species. The work of Antonio José Lara Bocanegra, Antonio Roig, Almudena Majano Majano and Manuel Guaita has the title “Innovative developments in the designs and construction of a permanent elastic timber gridshell“.
This wooden structure can be visited at the PEMADE facilities at the Polytechnic School of Lugo, within the Campus Terra of the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela.
