Promoting the use of local wood for the development of structural timber products Development and construction of the Gridshell prototype
Some of the actions of the lugobiodinamico.eu are based on the use of local wood for the development of structural timber products providing high performance comfort and aesthetic value, in order to encourage the replacement of materials with high energy cost commonly used in construction.
In particular, the action: “Adaptation of constructive systems with autochthonous materials of low embodied energy and analysis of other adaptable technologies” includes the development of a structural roof system called “Gridshell“, made of Eucalyptus globulus.
The presented results corresponds to experimental campaigns, design process and construction of the first prototype carried out through the Structural Timber Engineering Platform (PEMADE), which belong to the Supporting Infrastructures Network for Research and Technological Development of the University of Santiago de Compostela, with the collaboration and/or participation of the local industry and the Timber Technological Innovation and Services Centre (CISMadeira).
